Ruto's teary moment was genuine; Ogolla's son Joel says as he dismisses bloggers

Joel Rabuku Omondi Ogolla, son of the late Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Francis Ogolla, has dismissed claims that President William Ruto was at a crossroads when he appointed Ogolla to the top security job.

Speaking during a memorial service in Siaya County on Sunday, Rabuku clarified that Ruto was not coerced into appointing Ogolla and the job was secured solely based on competence.

"The President didn't have to appoint him first of all and initially he saw his competencies and decided that this is the man for the job," he said while paying tribute.

He added that shortly after entering office, they formed an airtight camaraderie with President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as they worked closely with the mission of achieving a formidable security system in the nation.

"Very quickly they became friends and started forming a serious chemistry which he would tell me 'I have had a very good meeting with the boss. And it's not the president alone, the deputy president as well," he said.

"And his Cabinet Secretary, these people became like brothers. I have seen someone say that the president was actually in a corner. I know it went beyond their working relationship and they were working to change this country very seriously and its a serious blow to the three of them. As a family we thank you for putting your turst in General."

He therefore warned those breeding claims that Ogolla's appointment was ingenuine, noting "from today, unless you are quoting me, please desist from spreading such rumours."

He also recounted President Ruto's teary moment on Saturday during the state funeral at Ulinzi Grounds in Nairobi, which was met with heavy scrutiny by members of the public who said that the tears were feigned.

"I saw you holding your eyes and people said those were crocodile tears in my heart from what I know, it was genuine," noted Rabuku.

Rabuku also made it known that he was vexed by the manner in which some bloggers broke the news on his father's demise, calling for sensitivity and professionalism.

"When my mother called me ad told me dad has gone down in a helicopter crash there a very useless bloggers...you are so quick to post pictures. People are so insensitive, so you broke the news. Have you received an EGH for breaking the news?" he said.

"Let us be sensitive, bloggers and the media. I would mention them by name but that is unacceptable."

He further vowed to continue his father's legacy of giving back to the community, noting that he would help revamp the learning institutions in the region with the support of the president and his deputy.

"I had an elaborate plan that in the next 2 or 3 years all these primary schools you are seeing here to be fully rehabilitated. You don't have to be a politician to make a difference to your country.

"Sometimes politicians make so much noise but we can't see the results and that one I am not afraid of saying. All I am asking is for your continued support. I will change this area."

The celebrated General Ogolla will be privately buried at his home in Mor Village, Siaya County as a few people have been invited.

According to his family, Ogolla wanted a simple burial with him lowered to the ground wrapped in sheets and not put in a coffin.
