Ruto should dissolve Parliament - Nelson Havi

In his view, the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has exposed the government's frail structure and it cannot execute its mandate with the existing disarray.

"You have dismembered the neck from the body and torso and it is a good thing because evidently, this structure has failed. It must be repaired or a new structure be put in place," said Havi speaking to Citizen TV on Wednesday.

"You must disburse Parliament otherwise the gangrene that is growing from the toes will go to the heart."

Havi said that Parliament's nod to oust Gachagua will be detrimental to President Ruto's performance and will need to sanitize his leadership to regain confidence in Kenyans.

The lawyer however noted that despite ouster calls against the President, Ruto is still fit to lead the nation and should be allowed time to put his house in order.

"When the ship is sinking the captain will be the last to leave the ship. The person remaining to annihilate this government will be the President. He should not wait for this matter to reach the Senate," he said.

Members of Parliament impeached Gachagua on Tuesday after a day-long prosecution as 281 voted YES,  44 voted NO and 1 abstained.

The Special Motion outlined 11 charges against the Deputy President, including gross violation of the Constitution, undermining the President and the Cabinet, undermining Devolution, and compromising judicial independence by publicly attacking a judge.

Additional accusations included making inciteful statements, committing economic crimes, spreading false, malicious, divisive, and inciteful remarks, publicly insubordinating the President, and persistently bullying State and public officers.

The decision has been forwarded to the Senate to seal Gachagua's fate.
