Ruto in Meru to launch road projects, says he's focused on development, not talks

President William Ruto greets Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza and Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi in Meru during the launch road project on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

President William Ruto is in Igembe North, Meru County to launch the upgrading of the Kaelo-Kamukunji-Mutuati Road to bitumen standard.

He was hosted on Saturday by Governor Kawira Mwangaza among other leaders, including Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa, Senator Kathuri Murungi and several MPs.

Addressing residents, Ruto took the opportunity to thank residents for voting for Kenya Kwanza during last year's election.

"I want to say thanks. I am here to fulfil the promise I made that once we were done with elections, I would return to bring development," he said.

He took the opportunity to take a swipe at Azimio leader Raila Odinga over the call for dialogue, saying, "I will not allow those who want to drag us behind as they call for talks."

"The way to development is not going to the streets with sufurias on your head and making noise... the way to development is taking your seeds and going to plant in your shambas and getting your produce."

The President said he is committed to ensuring that road projects are completed to ensure the economy is lifted by allowing for transportation of goods.

Ruto said he will ensure the road is completed and would return by December to witness the completion.
