Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday morning held an address at his official residence in Karen, making his final pitch to Kenyans ahead of the Tuesday General Election.

Flanked by other members of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, DP Ruto promised to address the high cost of living and unemployment should he succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.

"The economy is in dire strait, the high cost of basic commodities such as food and fuel should never be this harsh. Small businesses have closed shop, others are just hanging in there because the cost of doing business is terrible. Unemployment is soaring, there are less jobs than before," said DP Ruto.

Ruto also pledged to address the plight of women, youth and persons living with disabilities (PWLDS) noting that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance has crafted and commissioned charters that will help the faction address problems affecting  the said groups.

"In the education sector we have agreed to remove the hiccups and we have agreed on affirmative action for Kenyan women and people living with disability. We have agreed on and signed county economic charters, we have developed an authentic homegrown Kenya country plan from these charters," he said.

"In our first day in office, we have agreed, among other things, to tackle the punitive cost of living so that each and every one of us can afford o go about their lives and to reduce the cost of doing business so that industries can thrive and opportunities for employment can be a reality."

The DP likewise chimed in on rising cases of graft in the country underscoring that fighting corruption will be of paramount importance to his administration.

According to DP Ruto, corruption erodes the confidence people have in the government  while wasting critical finances earmarked for important community projects as such Kenyans have to put up with poor quality services and infrastructure.

"We have agreed to tackle run away corruption including state capture, budgeted corruption and financial wastage," said DP Ruto.

While urging voters not to take their individual votes for granted, the DP  correspondingly advised Kenyans to cast their votes wisely and only elect leaders who will put their best interests at heart.

"I invite all of you to be purposeful and deliberate as you vote. Do not take chances with that hallowed ballot paper; it is all you've got to choose between stagnation and progress. It is time to have the courage to say no to anything that threatens our humanity, civility and decency," he said.

"We must believe in a better tomorrow but it is our duty to make a better tomorrow. Let's not surrender to skeptics. This is the essence of your vote; chose leaders who will make decisions to better your lives," he said.

He similarly reiterated that he is ready for the elections, regardless of which register will be used - manual or electronic.

"We are ready for these elections with whichever register," the DP said.

Earlier in the week, the court ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to use a manual register to identify voters in the August polls.

Ruto will later on Saturday head to Nyayo Stadium as the official period for campaigns ends today.
