Raila's AU bid shouldn't be made Kenya's political topic - Otiende Amolo

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has warned that Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s bid to become chairman of the African Union Commission should not be made a Kenyan political topic.

He says that much as President William Ruto’s move to support Odinga’s candidature is appreciated, it needs to be known that Kenya has only one vote.

The lawmaker has warned politicians allied to Kenya Kwanza, saying they do not need to traverse the country with that issue, arguing that there are other issues which can be talked about.

“We welcome President Ruto’s move to support Raila in the AU bid, but it does not need to be a political topic. Kenya has only one vote,” said the Rarieda legislator.

Amollo says that there are many relevant and present political issues that can be talked about including the current health crisis, high cost of living and fake fertilisers among others.

“Let us talk about the health crisis, let us talk about over taxation, the cost of living…thugs selling soil as fertiliser,” he said.

He says that Kenyans will not stop talking about the issues affecting them just because there is this issue of the African Union Commission.

Amollo was speaking at a funeral in Rarieda constituency, where Siaya governor James Orengo laughed off those who have been thinking that Odinga will leave Kenya’s political scene once he is elected the new chairman of the African Union Commission.

He told off those that are already scheming to succeed Odinga in the ODM party leadership, a position that is not vacant yet.

They were flanked by the leader of Roots party Prof. George Wajackoyah among other dignitaries.
