Azimio
la Umoja leader Raila Odinga now calls for more consultation as the only way to
deal with Kenya’s economic challenges.
While
decrying the hard economic time that has persisted in this country, Mr Odinga
stated that Kenya is in the current situation because President William Ruto’s
Kenya Kwanza administration has a deficit of technocrats in the sector of
economics.
He
says therefore that as Kenyans prepare to usher in the New Year 2024 amid the
economic challenges, there is a need for unity amongst the Kenyan people,
reiterating that opportunities should be created for more consultations.
Odinga
who spoke when he joined worshipers for Christmas service at St Peters’ Nyamira
ACK Church in Bondo constituency, stated that the Kenya Kwanza government was
making life very difficult not because they like but because they lack proper
economists who can give effective advice to them.
“There
is no way that they can expect to improve the economy if they have to continue
increasing taxes by the day. They will only make the situation worse because
Kenyans may soon start to evade paying taxes,” he said.
Mr
Odinga was accompanied by his wife Idah Odinga, Siaya governor James Orengo,
Senator Dr Oburu Oginga and MPs James Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Samuel Atandi
(Aleg/Usonga), Anthony Oluoch (Madhare) and Ruth Odinga (Kisumu) among others.
He has
at the same time called for forgiveness amongst the Kenyan people as they
prepare to usher in the new year.
He
stated that this country needs a lot of healing for Kenyans to be able to reap
from the fruit of the sacrifices that they have made over the years.
