President William Ruto has assured Members of Parliament that the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) will be disbursed to their constituencies before the January school reopening.

This commitment follows a deadlock in the National Assembly on Wednesday, where MPs halted activities, pressing for the prompt release of their NG-CDF allocations from the Treasury.

There was drama in Parliament on Tuesday as legislators staged a walk-out over the State’s failure to release money meant for the NG-CDF.

The Members of Parliament ended a Plenary session prematurely and broke into chants of ‘solidarity forever’ and ‘No CDF, No Parliament!’

Acknowledging the delay in fund disbursement, attributed to prevailing liquidity challenges the nation faces, the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u had previously cited these financial constraints as the cause.

However, President Ruto emphasized the government's dedication to prioritizing the disbursement of the NG-CDF, particularly to ensure that students reliant on these funds for bursaries are not affected.

The president conveyed this commitment at the commemoration of the Kikuyu Constituency Education Foundation's ten-year milestone and the inauguration of the foundation's Endowment fund.

Established under the patronage of Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, the KICE Foundation aims to support financially disadvantaged and marginalized students in accessing quality education.

President Ruto underscored the critical role played by the NG-CDF in assisting underprivileged students, pledging to fast-track its allocation to prevent any adverse impact on the beneficiaries.

He reiterated the government's focus on safeguarding the educational pursuits of deserving students and ensuring equitable access to resources.
