'Tutawanyorosha': President Ruto tells Raila on chances of 2027 win, calls for end of demos

President William Ruto in Vihiga on July 22, 2023 to launch the last mile water project.

President William Ruto has hit out at the Raila Odinga-led Azimio coalition for the string of Maandamano countrywide protests it has called to oppose the Finance Act 2023 and the high cost of living.

The President said Kenyans already voted for their preferred leader in the 2022 polls, but if the opposition still wants to give a shot at leading the country, it can wait for 2027, though he quickly added that even then, it will see dust.

"The people already went to the polls and chose their preferred leaders and if they still feel they want to try their luck, 2027 is there, let them come tuwanyoroshe tena mara ya mwisho (we will show them dust again)," he said.

Ruto spoke in Vihiga on Saturday, and said, “Tell those people to stop opposing the Act. It will help create opportunities.”

Ruto was in Vihiga to commission the Vihiga Last Mile Water Supply Project in Mbale, Sabatia Constituency.

He urged the opposition to stop pushing for the repeal of the Finance Act 2023, insisting that it will help create opportunities for the youth.

The Court of Appeal declined to lift the suspension of the Finance Act pending the hearing and determination of petitions against it by among others, Busia Senator Okiyah Omtatah.

Ruto hit out at opposition leaders, saying that their children should be at the forefront of the Maandamano nationwide protests.

“Why do they want the children of others to be out for Maandamano yet their children are safe at home?” he posed.

Ruto criticised the Maandamano demos, saying trade was being disrupted and business owners were counting losses instead of trying to grow their businesses.

Speaking on the uptake of the Hustler Fund by Vihiga residents, Ruto called out residents for taking out loans but failing to pay back.

"But you people of Vihiga have many issues, many of you took out loans but when it comes time to pay back, you are not paying," he said while laughing.
