Speaking in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Narok County, while flagging off trucks carrying electrification materials, the President said his government had already set aside Ksh.2.5 billion to connect 15,000 households to electricity in Narok County within the next year.
The electrification exercise will be led by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), which has proven expertise in connecting rural homes to electricity. Among the targeted facilities are primary and secondary schools, dispensaries, markets, and community boreholes.
President Ruto noted that Narok County has historically been left behind in matters of electrification. He emphasized that his government is determined to reverse this trend by heavily investing in electricity, which is expected to spur economic growth and improve living standards for residents.
The President was accompanied by several leaders, including his Deputy, Professor Kithure Kindiki, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, REREC Chairman Geoffrey Lemiso, and CEO Dr. Rose Mkalama, among others.
The President urged politicians to set aside selfish interests, stressing that this is a time to serve Kenyans rather than engage in constant politicking. He criticized those opposed to the broad-based government, challenging them to present their development records to the public.
His message was echoed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who reiterated that the President’s visit was not for campaigning but to highlight his development agenda.
"Kazi kwanza, siasa baadaye," quipped the Deputy President, emphasizing that the President was there to present his development record to the people.
