President Ruto dishes goodies in Nyanza as he begins 4-day tour
President William Ruto has begun his four-day
tour of the Nyanza region with a commitment to strengthening an all-inclusive
government while rejecting divisive politics.
Speaking in Migori County on Wednesday, the
President emphasized that a key item on his agenda is to support former Prime
Minister Raila Odinga in his bid to become the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson.
Ruto highlighted Raila as an icon of
democracy and good leadership, expressing optimism that he will guide the
African Union Commission in the right direction.
During the visit, the President toured the
Lower Kuja Irrigation Scheme in Nyatike, where he pledged an additional Ksh.1.5
billion to revive the project.
He also committed to allocating more funds
for the completion of several stalled road projects in the region and Ksh.1.6
billion for Last Mile electricity connectivity.
Accompanying the President was his Deputy,
Rigathi Gachagua, who urged Migori residents to back the government’s transformative
approach to addressing the country's economic challenges.
Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko also appealed
to the President to expand the Western tourism circuit by upgrading the Lichota
Airstrip. He further requested the release of hardship allowances for civil
servants in neglected hardship areas.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, on his
part, assured Migori residents that he would support the President's efforts by
ensuring timely release of funds for the identified projects.
