President Ruto commissions construction of Ksh.1.6B road in Nyandarua
President William Ruto on
Thursday officially commissioned the construction of a Ksh.1.6 billion 50-kilometre stretch
of road in Ndaragwa, Nyandarua County.
President Ruto says that construction of the bitumen road, which is slated to be completed in 18 months' time, will open up the region to neighbouring townships while bolstering economic growth in the area.
Ruto, who was in the company of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a number of Mt. Kenya MPs, likewise announced that the State will construct a modern market within Shamata Trading Centre to nurture a favourable environment for business owners within the area.
"I've instructed your MP to work in tandem with the road's constructors and the Ministry of Housing to ensure that the modern market is set up. This should be completed before the road," he said.
While urging leaders in attendance to focus on addressing the myriad of challenges facing their constituents instead of endorsing the Azimio la Umoja-led anti-government demonstrations, Ruto announced that the State is seeking to increase milk production in the region in a bid to ensure that dairy farmers gain from their agricultural endeavours.
Leaders who accompanied the president lauded the projects adding that they will boost the region's economy.
Ndaragwa MP George Gachagua and his counterparts Faith Gitau and Ndindi Nyoro among others lamented that Nyandarua residents have suffered in the past owing to the poor road network but all this will change once the project is established.
They observed that Nyandarua, being a pro-agricultural county, has the potential to feed the entire country but this will only be achieved once the road networks are established.
