President
William Ruto has blasted Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leaders over
their plans to hold rallies in the city barely days after the political outfit’s
leader Raila Odinga announced that he does not recognize him as the Head of
State.
Speaking
in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi County, on Friday, President Ruto said he will not be
distracted by the sideshows and will continue executing his mandate.
The
President was in Kamukunji Constituency for the unveiling of the first phase of
affordable housing in Shauri Moyo.
“Wao
wamepeleka wtoto wao bunge Arusha, halafu watoto wenu wanapelekwa Kamukunji Grounds
na Jacaranda kutupa mawe...hiyo hatukubali,” said Ruto.
Odinga
announced on Monday that he does not recognise Ruto as president and plans to
hold another rally this weekend at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East Constituency
to pile pressure on the government to step down; but Ruto says those are
sideshows.
“Ile
sitaki ni wanibebee ati nishughulike na mambo yao na niwache mambo ya Wakenya
milioni 50…hiyo Hapana,” said the President.
Nairobi
Governor Johnson Sakaja vowed to lead a push to have Azimio leaders in Nairobi
set aside their political affiliations and work with the Kenya Kwanza government,
but Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said they must first show allegiance to
the President.
“Sasa
rais mimi nitaleta hawa MCAs wote wa Kenya Kwanza na Azimio…na wabunge wote Nairobi
tuongee na wewe mambo ya maendeleo,” said Governor Sakaja.
DP
Rgachagua however stated: “Governor Sakaja umesema vizuri lakini lazima kwanza
wapitie kwangu niwaweke mizani…juzi mkubwa wao alisema hatambui William Ruto na
wakapiga makofi.”
President
Ruto pushed for an intensified affordable housing programme in the city, with 50,000
housing units target in a year, that he says will cost as low as Ksh.5,000.
“Hizi
nyumba tumeambia contractor aweke ikuwe Ksh.5,000 ili muweze kuchukuwa,” he
stated.
