President Ruto appoints former Nairobi Governor Kidero as KNTC Chairperson
President William
Ruto has appointed former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero as Chairperson of the
Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC).
In a gazette notice dated Friday, November 15, President Ruto designated Kidero to serve in his new for a period of three years, effective immediately.
"In exercise of
the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as
read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions
Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, president of the Republic of Kenya and
Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Evans Odhiambo Kidero to be
the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya National Trading
Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 15th November
2024. The appointment of Hussein Tene Debasso is revoked," the notice read.
The one-term Nairobi
governor now takes over from Hussein Tene Debasso whose appointment was revoked.
Kidero makes a comeback in Ruto’s government after a recent nomination as a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Trade failed to sail through.
Dr Kidero contested unsuccessfully for the Homa Bay County governorship during the 2022 elections where he lost to incumbent Governor Gladys Wanga who was vying on an ODM party ticket against his Independent ticket.
