President Kenyatta nominates Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri for PSC chair position

President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Ambassador Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri for appointment as chairperson of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Amb. Muchiri currently serves as the Kenyan Ambassador to Cuba, as well as as the High Commissioner/Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Kenya to Jamaica, Barbados, St. Kitts & Nevis, Guyana, the Dominican Republic, and the CARICOM (the Caribbean Community).

He is also a career public servant who joined the civil service as an entry-level Assistant Inspector in the Inspectorate of State Corporations.

Later on, he would serve as a District Officer (D.O) and in other roles in the Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the Ministry of Planning; the State Department for The ASALs,  the Cabinet Affairs Office and Office of the Head of the Public Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Uhuru Kenyatta then declared the post vacant on August 24 after the death of Stephen Kirogo on May 14 at a Nairobi hospital.

Twelve candidates had been shortlisted for the position. They include; PSC vice-chairperson Charity Kisotu and former Special Programmes PS Mahboub Mohammed Maalim, Selly Jemutai Kimosop, Charles Onami Maranga, Kennedy Juma Mulunda, Susannah Rebecca Ochieng.

Others were Maurice Mutinda Wambua, Nancy Oundo Dalla, Elseba Jepkoech Too, David Kung'u Njoroge and Duke Omondi Orata.

Amb. Muchiri is set to appear before a parliamentary committee for approval before he is officially appointed to the position.
