President Kenyatta meets top security chiefs amid terror attack alerts from the US, France, Germany
In a statement to newsrooms, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena said the Head of State and the officials, who included Regional and County Commissioners, discussed a wide array of national security subjects.
"Led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, the security chiefs thanked President Kenyatta for the support their formations receive from the Government including improved welfare, and assured the Head of State of their commitment to continue discharging their mandate professionally," reads the statement.
The meeting comes amid terror alerts issued by France, Germany and the United States warning of possible terror attacks targeting foreigners in Nairobi.
On Thursday, the French government cautioned its citizens as well as expatriates from other Western countries in Kenya to avoid public areas and crowded places it classified as possible hotspots.
The German embassy issued a warning that over the next few days its citizens in Kenya should pay special attention when out in public and be alert.
The United States Embassy in Kenya on Friday urged its citizens to exercise vigilance in public places frequented by tourists such as shopping malls, hotels, airports, clubs, restaurants, transportation hubs, schools, places of worship.
The Kenyan police service has since however allayed fears of a looming terror attack, saying it is yet to officially receive reports from any of the said foreign governments on the same.
Police spokesman Bruno Shioso assured Kenyans of their safety citing that security has been heightened in Nairobi and other metropolitan areas in the country.
President Kenyatta is said to have thanked the security chiefs for ensuring sustained peace in the country, and assured the officials of continued Government backing especially in this period leading up to the forthcoming general election.
The Head of State also spoke about the country's Covid-19 response progress, and urged the officials to assist in accelerating the ongoing voluntary vaccination exercise.
The meeting was also attended by Head of Public Service Dr Joseph Kinyua, Interior PS Dr Karanja Kibicho and CAS Hussein Dado,
