President-elect William Ruto: There were games going on around Bomas

William Ruto speaks in a joint sit-down with multiple media houses after he was announced winner of the presidential election on August 15. 2022.

President-elect William Ruto now claims that there were attempts to interfere with the presidential election outcome at the Bomas of Kenya.

Ruto, speaking in a joint sit-down with multiple media houses after he was announced winner of the presidential election by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Monday, said the alleged events will soon come to light.

He however seemingly intimated that the efforts were thwarted, further seeking to allay fears among the electorate of the alleged existence of a shadow government dubbed the ‘Deep State’ or the ‘system’ that manipulates elections.

The Kenya Kwanza chief expressed confidence in the validity of his election, urging those with a contrary opinion to present their grievances before the Supreme Court.

This after 4 IEBC commissioners earlier on held a press address in which they disowned the results of the August 9th presidential election saying the last phase of the process was not transparent.

“We’re vindicated that it is not the Deep State and the system and all these other stories…it is the people of Kenya who ultimately hire or fire governments. I assured my supporters that I was the deputy president, if there was a Deep State or system I would know,” he said.

“All the narratives about the Deep State and the system have come to naught. They now know that it is the power of their vote as is provided for in the Constitution of Kenya. Not that there were no attempts, with time you will know all these games that have been going on around Bomas.”

He added: “There was no other outcome of this election, it didn’t matter who was looking at it. And maybe we encourage those commissioners and other Kenyans who have issues with the elections, they know what to do. They need to follow the constitutionally provided legal channels of addressing their concerns.”

Ruto termed the August 9th poll exercise as the most transparent election process held in Kenya yet, commending the IEBC for executing its mandate with precision.

He further stated that he will, moving forward, work closely with members of the fourth estate saying he is a staunch advocate of media freedom.

“I intend to engage media outlets going forward because I believe in the freedom of the media, and I believe the media has a role to play. When I criticize the media, it’s because I believe in the media and I want the media to do the right thing,” he said.
