Polytechnic students implore Interior ministry to reinstate Mawego police station

Mawego police station was torched on July 3 when the body of slain blogger Albert Ojwang’ was brought home from Nairobi for the burial ceremony at his parent’s home in Kakoth village.

Eight suspects accused of orchestrating the attack were arrested and arraigned at Kahawa Law courts in Nairobi where they denied terrorism and arson charges leveled against them.

Mawego National Polytechnic students, through their leader Ephraim Odhiambo Were have decried rising cases of insecurity in Mawego area after police officers from Mawego police station were transferred to Kendu Bay police station after the arson.

In a letter to PS Omollo, the student leadership states that the area is now having insecurity cases orchestrated by criminals who have taken advantage of the situation.

The student leadership says a number of students who reside outside the institution are harassed at night and some have lost their mobile phones and other essential belongings to unknown individuals in the area.

The students have requested the Ministry of Interior and Coordination to consider reinstating police officers at the station to address security concerns in the area.
