Police clarify viral video of armed men marching, singing in Baringo
The National Police Service (NPS) has come
out to clarify that a viral video of men donning civilian outfits while marching
and singing are actually National Police Reservists (NPRs).
In a statement on Saturday, NPS allayed fears
raised by netizens who alleged that the group was bandits terrorizing residents
in Baringo County where the said clip had allegedly been captured.
According to NPS, however, the contingent is
part of officers who are currently undertaking their training in Tangulbei,
Baringo County.
“Contrary to the online portrayal and
perception regarding a video clip currently circulating on social media, of men
singing and matching in civilian clothes while armed, the National Police
Service wishes to inform, reassure and further clarify to the members of the
public that these are the National Police Reservists engaging in their
recreational exercise as part of their ongoing training in Tangulbei, Baringo
County,” read the statement.
NPS further revealed that the NPR trainees
were donned in their casual attires since they were yet to be issued with their
uniforms.
It went ahead to state that the trainees were
in the company of their supervisors who in the video can be seen wearing
tracksuits.
“The NPR trainees who were yet to be kitted with
their uniforms were matching from their residence to their training ground
within the Tangulbei Town under the full supervision of their instructors seen
wearing tracksuits,” NPS noted.
“The National Police Reservists are part of
the National Police Service and currently, the Tangulbei trainees are on a
six-week training course, and are due for their Pass Out later this month.”
