Police arrest businesswoman selling sand disguised as wheat flour

Police officers in Tana River have arrested a businesswoman and her accomplice for selling sand disguised as Ajab wheat flour to unsuspecting customers. 

Fatuma Issa and her assistant Tony Molaya were on Saturday arrested within Adere area in Tana River, after one of their customers reported to the DCI that he had been sold sand packaged as wheat flour.

According to the police, the shop retailer within Madogo Training Centre bought seven bales of Ajab wheat flour from Fatuma at a cost of Ksh.11,900, only to discover he had been sold sand packaged in Ajab flour bags.

Detectives immediately swung into action and started investigating the allegations, only to pounce on Fatuma and her accomplice packaging the sand in the Ajab flour bags.

Two more traders filed a complaint with the police that they had been sold sand by the two suspects.

In the swoop, a total of 240 packets and three bales were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects will be arraigned in court next week, as DCI Bandale continues with investigations.
