Pharmacy and Poisons Board to safeguard drug quality using technology

PPB said that the implementation phase includes personnel re-training conducted by software engineers from Global Health Labs USA.

Part of the extensive process will include equipment qualification and the development of a comprehensive library to support the technology’s operation.

Provided by the Mission of Essential Medicines and Supplies, the tool will be used for on-site screening of medical products at PPB regional offices and key entry points.

"This cutting-edge technology is set to enhance PPB’s quality control systems by detecting substandard and falsified medical products, thereby ensuring the safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines," the board said.

Earlier this year, PPB noted that the technology will enhance the detection of sub-standard and falsified medical products in the country.

"To maximize the impact of this new tool, a training was conducted for PPB staff, county pharmacists, and KEMSA personnel," PPB said.

The Board noted that the technology will bolster its surveillance of the Kenyan pharmaceutical market and protect public health, for the good of Kenyans.
