Over 40,000 youths from Nairobi will be recruited for the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Project, which aims to raise the profile of the city in a bid to attract more investors and improve its economic output.

The youths will be tasked with ensuring the faster realization of this key project under the Climate WorX initiative, funded by the national government. The initiative focuses on cleaning the city's rivers, constructing new sewer lines, building new social housing units, and collecting and disposing of solid waste, among other activities.

Already, 22,000 youths are on-site after President Ruto launched the Regeneration Project on Monday. Another 18,000 will join beginning next month. This is in addition to the thousands already employed at various sites where the construction of affordable housing units is ongoing.

During a development visit to Dagoretti South, Dagoretti North, and Westlands constituencies on Wednesday, the President and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki challenged the youth to enrol in the two-year project, emphasizing their crucial role in its successful implementation.

“We are creating job opportunities for our youth and women to ensure they have a source of income and to move our country forward. The Climate WorX program presently employs 22,000 youths and is being expanded to accommodate 18,000 more,” the President said.

The Deputy President stated that the government’s primary goal is to engage as many youths and women as possible in gainful employment through various initiatives, adding that the Regeneration Program is a top priority for the administration.

“Our agenda as a government is to create jobs in every possible sector for our young people. That is why we are providing job opportunities through affordable housing, the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Project, and other programs such as Kazi Kwa Ground, as well as online jobs through Kazi Mtandaoni via ICT hubs, and international employment under the Kazi Majuu program,” DP Kindiki added.

On the third day of the development tour of the capital city, the President inspected the ongoing construction of Mutuini Fresh Produce Modern Market, Riruta Modern Market, and the expansion of Dagoretti Sub-County Hospital.

He also opened the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Laboratory at PC Kinyanjui Technical and Training Institute and laid the foundation stone for the Dagoretti Jitume Centre of Excellence (ICT Hub) in Dagoretti South constituency.

In the neighbouring Dagoretti North, he inspected the construction of the Kawangware Primary Junior Secondary Tuition Block and new classrooms at Gatina Primary School and officially opened the Gatina Junior Secondary Tuition Block.

In Westlands constituency, he opened the Kangemi Junior School tuition block and inspected the construction of the Kangemi Bridge-James Gichuru Junction-Rironi Highway.

Accompanied by the DP and Nairobi leaders, the President also addressed wananchi at various stopovers in Kawangware, Riruta, Congo, Stage 2, Stage 56, and Kangemi Centre, assuring them of his government’s unwavering commitment to the development of the two constituencies and the entire city. The Head of State reaffirmed his dedication to uniting the country for long-term prosperity.

“We are not interested in the politics of hate, negative ethnicity, or discrimination based on tribe, religion, or origin. My duty as President is to bring together all leaders and Kenyans so that we can focus on developing our country. This is the only way we can improve agricultural production, build roads, connect more Kenyans to electricity, and boost the economy,” the President reiterated.

DP Kindiki emphasized that development is only achievable in a united and peaceful nation, free from discrimination.

“We want a patriotic and united country. Now is the time to build a strong nation. We must be united and put an end to all forms of discrimination for our country to move forward,” the DP said.
