The Sunday raid in the Uruku area was led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), in collaboration with local law enforcement. The operation was spearheaded by NACADA Head of Enforcement Mr. Nicholas Kosgei (SSP), alongside County Coordinator Mr. Andrew Githua and Inspector Ian Liru, who coordinated with officers from the area.
Authorities targeted an establishment operating under the names Beer Wholesalers Wines and Spirits and Travellers Pub where a 44-year-old female proprietor was arrested during the raid.
The enforcement team recovered 1,710 bottles (250ml each) of assorted alcoholic drinks bearing suspicious labels, including Tycoon, Sweet Berry, Dallas, Brandy, Jambo, as well as soft drinks.
Preliminary checks raised concerns that the products were counterfeit, potentially posing a serious health risk. All seized items were secured as exhibits, with samples sent to the Government Chemist for further analysis.
NACADA officials confirmed that the operation was part of a broader national effort to dismantle networks involved in the production and sale of illegal alcohol, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas prone to regulatory violations.
“This crackdown reinforces our commitment to protecting the public from harmful and unregulated alcoholic products,” said Mr. Kosgei.
The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged once chemical analysis results are returned.
