Police in Nyali, Mombasa County, have arrested one person in possession of cannabis sativa, popularly known as bhang, with a street value of over Ksh.25 million.

30-year-old Cynthia Anyango was nabbed by Kadzandani Police Station officers in a suspected trafficker’s house during a raid.

The officers confiscated 16 sacks of bhang weighing 864.9kgs from the house situated at Green Estate in Kiembeni.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement released on Friday, said the officers who were acting on a tip-off from the public raided the premises but the main suspect had fled.

“Upon raiding the trafficker's den, the officers hit a jackpot, uncovering 16 hefty sacks of cannabis weighing 864.9kgs with an estimated street value of Sh25,407,000,” DCI noted.

“Cynthia Anyango, 30, who was found in the trafficker's house was apprehended and is assisting the police in search of the main suspect who slipped through the police's fingers.”

The bhang was kept as an exhibit as the detectives continue to step up the fight against narcotics in the region.
