Oil spilt after train overturns in Kibwezi
A train ferrying petroleum from Mombasa to
Nairobi has overturned and spilt an unknown amount of fuel near Kibwezi town in
Makueni County.
According to police reports, the train
derailed while attempting to negotiate a corner near Kibwezi town. Two fuel
train wagons overturned and spilt fuel on a bridge leading into the town.
Police and the Red Cross have since said nobody
was injured in the train accident.
Police are currently patrolling the area to
prevent people from siphoning the fuel.
They say a significant amount of fuel has
spilled and locals are attempting to collect it.
A fire engine from Makueni County has arrived
at the scene to help manage the situation.
