26-year-old New-Zealand millionaire found dead at his Nairobi home

A triumphant New Zealand native entrepreneur Jake Millar has died in Kenya, in an apparent suicide, eight months after jetting in the country.

According to sources, the 26-year-old was found dead at the balcony of his house in Karen, Nairobi.

“The body was found hanging on a rope at his balcony. He was alone in his cottage,” said an official.

Nairobi police boss Augustine Nthumbi said they had launched a probe on the incident.

“We were informed of a body of the young man at his house and we are now pursuing the matter. We were told it was suicide but investigators are on it,” he said.

Some of his friends who visited the scene said they will help ship his belongings to his family in New Zealand.

Also, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade noted it was providing consular assistance to his family.

His cause of death has not been confirmed.

In March, the former Forbes 30 under 30 lister and teenage millionaire had sold his business-education start-up Unfiltered – a move which displeased his cashed-up investors and earned him a lot of criticism from New Zealand media.

Founded in 2015, at its height, Unfiltered was worth Ksh.1.2 billion.

Since his death was announced, noteworthy business people have shared their tributes on social media, including former New Zealand Prime Minister Sir John Key.

“From the first time I met him, I knew he was someone special. He had a mixture of courage, warmness, intellect and maturity and strength to deal with adversity, which is never easy for a young person. I respected him and I will miss him,” he told the New Zealand Herald a New-Zealand based news site.

Before this, while still at school, Millar founded a similar business called Oompher, which was sold to the New Zealand Government for a six-figure sum.
