New SRC chair Sammy Chepkwony, six commissioners sworn in
Newly appointed Salaries and Remuneration
Commission (SRC) Chairperson Sammy Chepkwony and six commissioners were sworn in on Monday.
Chepkwony and commissioners Martin
Ong’onyi, Mohamed Abdi, Jane Njage, Gilda Odera, Geoffrey Omondi, and Leonid
Ashindu took the oath of office at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
The oath was administered by the
Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfridah Mokaya in the presence of Chief Justice Martha Koome.
According to the
salary regulator, Chepkwony pledged to foster fair and sustainable wage
policies that align with Kenya’s economic realities, while ensuring public
service efficiency and enhanced stakeholder collaboration and cooperation.
Among the six
commissioners, Major General (Rtd) Kizito represents the Defence Council, Abdi
represents county governments, Njage the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and
Ashindu the Association of Professional Societies in East Africa.
Meanwhile, Dr Odera
represents the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) while Dr Omondi is for the
Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU).
The SRC boss and
commissioners will serve for six years.
Chepkwony succeeds Lyn
Mengich, whose six-year tenure ended last September.
