A five-million-dollar bounty on the head of Ugandan fugitive and warlord Joseph Kony is still on offer.

On October 1, 2022, the United States War Crimes Rewards Program urged the public to surrender information leading to the arrest of Kony, who has been on the run for 15 years.

“Joseph Kony has been wanted for more than 15 years. You can help bring him to justice and get paid up to $ 5 million. 100% confidentiality,” the notice read.

Kony led the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) and is accused of terrorizing northern Uganda for 20 years and was ejected from the country along with his rebel group in 2005.

The International Criminal Court wants him for war crimes. His militia is accused of abducting children to use as fighters and sex slaves, and of hacking off victims’ limbs as a method of intimidation and revenge.

Kony, armed ordered the LRA to attack villages, murdering, raping, and mutilating in a campaign of intimidation that displaced some two million people.

He claimed to receive prophesies from spirits in his dreams and children would be abducted and brainwashed into becoming his soldiers and slaves.

Children who resisted him were beaten to death by their peers and he turned his female captives into his wives.
