National Assembly and Senate Committees to vet Douglas Kanja for police IG position
The vetting session, scheduled for Thursday, will be co-chaired by Gabriel Tongoyo, MP (Narok West), and William Cheptumo (Baringo County).
President William Ruto nominated Douglas Kanja for the Inspector General position following the resignation of Japhet Koome on July 12, 2024.
Kanja brings a wealth of experience to the table, with a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades. Beginning his journey in law enforcement in 1985, Kanja has steadily risen through the ranks.
He has previously served as the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service and was the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) for five years. Additionally, Kanja held the position of Deputy Commandant of the GSU for three years and was the County Police Commander in charge of Kilifi County.
Throughout his career, Kanja has held several other high-level positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit, Chief Armourer at the Police Headquarters, and Deputy Chief Armourer at the Kenya Police Service Headquarters.
