Natembeya on his party of choice: I can't betray the president, I'm behind the handshake

Former Rift Valley Regional Commisioner George Natembeya has spoken about his political future, as he begins the hunt for the Trans Nzoia Governor seat in 2022.

Natembeya who was speaking during an interview with Radio Citizen on Monday, said he was fully behind President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the 'Handshake', reiterating that he would swing to the side the Head of State would support.

"Mimi nimefanya kazi na rais, siwezi  fika sasa sababu ya siasa nianze kulose principles nianze kurukaruka, apana, itakuwa the worst form of betrayal Rais wangu aniambie enda pande hii, na mimi niende pande hii," Natembeya said.

During the interview, Natembeya says before he threw his hat in the ring, he had consulted President Uhuru as well as the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

He says the Head of State as well as the Interior CS supported his move to now seek an elective seat in the coming polls.

"Rais anaunga mkono kabisa hatua ambayo nimechukua, including my former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, na pia PS," He added.

"Hii ni maneno ambayo ilikuwa na mjadala na tukakubaliana, lakini sahii focus ni kwanza ni kwa wanannchi wa Trans Nzoia,"

Natembeya  who capped a 25-year career in public service that saw him traverse all the 47 counties of Kenya, also laid out his plans, for the first 100 days in office should he be voted in.

Top of his list is upgrading Kitale Town- the county's headquarters- which he says needs a desperate face-lift especially the Central Business District with its potholes , in  order to enhance service delivery.

He also plans to complete and equip the Ksh.1.6 B  Trans Nzoia County Refferal Hospital, as well as finish the construction of the County Stadium whose construction began some 9 years ago.

Natembeya who claims to have honed his Public Service skills under the tutelage of the late  John Michuki, says that as governor, he will ensure that all contracts awarded by the Trans Nzoia county are given to residents of the county only.

The former Regional Commisioner also says he will drop the titles 'mheshimiwa' or any other honorariums, arguing that the fancy salutations make politicians grow a big head, and forget their mandate.
