Narok County celebrates National Donkey Day with calls to end donkey meat trade

National Donkey Day celebrations were colourfully marked in Narok County with stakeholders passionately calling for a total end to the donkey meat business and welfare of the beast.

Speaking at Uhuru market after a sensitization march that kicked off at The William Ole Ntimama stadium through the busy CBD the celebrations saw a vaccination and dehoofing exercise of the beasts.

Abdi Shakur Ali Deputy County Commissioner Narok Central who represented the County Commissioner called on members of the public to desist from consuming Donkey meat so as to aid in ending the sharp drop of the beast.

Winnie Simotwo the Chief Officer County Agriculture Department echoed the continued support of the donkeys in carrying water more so in rural areas where infrastructure remains a challenge.

Dr. Benson Kibore executive Director Farming Systems Kenya reflected on the gains against donkey ban for five years which has declined again thereby calling on both levels of Government to help end the resurgence of Donkey meat business sentiments shared by Elijah Gichihi Senior Operations Officer Brooke East Africa South Rift.

Josphine Mpatiany a farmer and Kitwa Yeyote donkey farmers in Narok appreciated the effort stakeholders continue to put in to ensure end in donkey slaughter and welfare.

This year’s theme is 'Year of Preserving African Species Preservation in Africa'.
