Nanyuki man sentenced to 30 years in jail for murder
A middle-aged man has been sentenced to 30
years behind bars for hacking another individual to death in Nanyuki, Laikipia
County.
The suspect, who was tried and sentenced at
the Nanyuki High Court, reportedly committed the offence on May 19, 2015 in
Kimagandura area of Laikipia.
The prosecution, led by Jackson Motende and
Esther Kimani, presented evidence that proved beyond doubt that the suspect was
guilty of the brutal murder.
"In issuing the sentence, the court
further observed that the accused showed no remorse for his actions. It was
also noted that the manner in which he killed the deceased was particularly
barbaric," the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said
in a statement on X.
"Additionally, the court acknowledged
the severe impact the death had on the victim's family, particularly as the
deceased had been the breadwinner."
Justice A.K. Ndungu subsequently delivered
the sentence, condemning the suspect to a lengthy period behind bars.
