Motion for the impeachment of Nakuru County Secretary Dr Samwel Mwaura, tabled by Menengai East Member of County Assembly Wilson Mwangi split the House on Thursday.

The motion split the assembly into two factions, where one allied to Governor Susan Kihika is against the motion while another aggrieved party is after his removal.

Mwaura has been accused of failing to show up before assembly committees, and allegedly hiring goons to forcefully eject patients and the management of War Memorial Hospital. Several patients died during the wrangles.

He is also accused of failing to obey a Lands and Environment court order that restricted the county government of Nakuru from meddling with the affairs of the memorial hospital until a case that was before the court was heard and determined.

The MCAs also claim Mwaura hired goons that attacked and disrupted peaceful demonstration and picketing by the Law Society of Kenya Nakuru Branch.

63 MCAs are not in support of establishing an ad-hoc committee which will be tasked with investigating the concerns outlined in the motion for impeachment of the Nakuru County secretary.

2 members abstained from the vote.
