Nairobi: Woman and lover arrested after her husband murdered, head chopped off

Two suspects arrested over murder of 39-year-old man in Nairobi.

Police in Nairobi's Kayole area are holding two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 39-year-old man last month.

The remains of Richard Ondieki lie cold at Nairobi City mortuary, his head and arms separated from the rest of his body which is still missing.

The suspects who include the wife of the deceased and her alleged lover are suspected to have murdered the father of two by hacking him before dismembering his body.

According to James Ongechi, an uncle to the deceased, a day after he went missing on April 14, some of his body parts; his head and arms, were discovered dumped in sewage just two kilometres from Saika in Kayole where he lives.

"Richard was missing for two weeks and that's when we reached out to the wife for some explanation. She claims that her husband packed his clothes and left his home and moved in with his lover and that was the last time he was seen. We did not know about this alleged lover and she could not give more details," he said.

Douglas Makori, the Nyumba Kumi chairman in the area, notes the neighbours believe the two suspects had an affair.

"This man was so involved with the family, you could not tell who the husband was between the two of them unless you knew them closely. He would carry Richard's last born baby go to the shop with the wife and they would even have a meal in the house especially when the husband was not around," said Makori.

The investigating officers in charge of the case note that the two men had a history of misunderstanding and confrontations over his wife.

The officers added that the investigation is still ongoing and samples from the suspected crime scene have been collected.

"We have taken some samples with blood stains found in the lover's house. We noticed that the man's trousers, pillowcase and bedsheets had some blood. All have been submitted for further test," he said.
