‘My journey to the Senate is not over,’ Jerotich Seii says after missing UDA ticket
Active Citizen Jerotich Seii has lost her
bid to contest for the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator seat under the United Democratic
Alliance (UDA) Party ticket.
In the party primaries held on Saturday, November
26, Seii emerged fourth with 8,540 votes.
William Kisang emerged winner in the
contest with 28,136 votes, followed by Tim Kipchumba and Jonah Tanui who had a
tie of 26,766 votes.
In a tweet on Sunday, Seii said that her
journey to the Senate has not been dimmed by the loss in UDA polls.
“To the wonderful people of Elgeyo Marakwet
County, kongoi mising for your votes. Against the backdrop of all that
transpired including low voter turnout that magically evolved into an
extraordinarily high one, I will simply say that my journey to the Senate is
not over,” she wrote.
Seii, who is also a humanitarian and
development consultant had earlier said her intention to be in parliament is to
seek direct legislative interventions on issues that affect Kenyans.
“If I have been able to do so much outside
without a cent, imagine what will happen if we had access to the spaces where
we can engage legislatively and see policy formulations come out as a result,”
she told Spice FM on October 7.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator seat fell
vacant after Kipchumba Murkomen was appointed Roads, Transport and
Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary.
Murkomen has since congratulated William
Kipsang for bagging the UDA ticket.
“Congratulations Hon. William Kisang on
your nomination as the UDA flag bearer for the upcoming Senatorial by-elections
in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Congratulations also to all the other candidates who
put up a spirited fight and performed exemplarily,” he wrote in a tweet on
Sunday.
