Muslim leaders want gov’t to stop promoting miraa sale
Muslim leaders in the country want the
government to immediately stop promoting the sale of miraa or khat by funding
farmers or collecting taxes from farmers and businessmen, saying the crop has
caused untold destruction of individuals and families.
The leaders who spoke in Nairobi have now
resorted to campaigning against the stimulant by addressing communities on the
negative effects of miraa.
While demanding that the government stop
collecting taxes from the farmers and businessmen engaged in the sale of miraa,
the leaders also want the government to repeal legislation supporting miraa
trade, including the Crops Act and the Agriculture and Food Authority Act.
