Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has accused the United Nations (UN) of terrorism conservation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Museveni, in an X post on Wednesday, November 15, criticized the UN mission for its failure to confront insurgents in the mineral-rich eastern Congo, where they persist in launching deadly attacks.

The President claimed the UN, through undemocratic structures of the Security Council, has for the past two decades facilitated what he deems a ‘terrorism conservation project’ in Eastern Congo.

“Part of the terrorism in Africa is either created or conserved by some of the actors that try to be global policemen. It is amazing how the UN can supervise and co-exist with killers of Congolese and Ugandans in Eastern Congo for the last 20 years, and they are not bothered at all,” wrote Museveni.

He also accused the UN of creating a free space for various groups to gather, train, and exploit the resources of Congo, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and undermining the economic future of the Great Lakes region.

The President further blamed the chaos in Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, and Chad on the UN structures, asserting their role in exacerbating conflicts across the African continent.

Furthermore, Museveni commended Uganda's security forces, including the Police, the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF), and Intelligence Services, for successfully managing the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja from November 9 to 12, despite challenges posed by the public function and the looming threat of terrorism.

“This shows you the strength of the Uganda security system to be able to guard such a long pre-announced massive public function, the threats of the terrorists notwithstanding,” he stated.

Notably, Museveni disclosed attempts by infiltrators sent by the ADF to disrupt the festival.

He unequivocally stated that the terrorists would pay for their crimes with their lives.

“These parasites who do not work for a living and prefer to use the ungoverned parts of Africa to steal and rape will pay with their wretched lives,” he said.

The ADF, originating in the 1990s, initially opposed President Museveni, alleging persecution of Muslims.

After setbacks in 2001, the group relocated to North Kivu province in the DRC, pledging allegiance to IS in 2016.
