A section of senior clergy from Murang’a County has come together in a show of solidarity to pray for President William Ruto, as tensions within the Executive escalate.

The clergy, under the Murang’a Senior Clergy Forum, expressed their unwavering support for the president, emphasizing the role of prayer in guiding his leadership during these challenging times.

Led by Bishop Maina S.M. and Bishop John Kiragu Mwangi, the clerics held a prayer session for the head of state, invoking divine guidance for President Ruto in his leadership of the nation.

The forum cited the Bible, referencing 1 Timothy 2:1-4, which calls on Christians to pray for those in positions of authority. The clergy highlighted the church's active role in supporting President Ruto during the election period, stating that it was their continued duty to intercede for him as he steers the country.

"The President is the driver of this nation, and praying for him is a duty for every Kenyan, whether situations are favorable or not," stated Bishop Maina. "It is our belief that through prayer and perseverance, God will grant the president the wisdom needed to lead Kenya to greater heights of development and unity."

The call for prayer comes at a time when the government is facing growing internal friction.

On Tuesday, this week , a motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was tabled in the National Assembly, sparking widespread political debate. A section of political leaders has accused President Ruto of being behind the impeachment motion, leading to speculation of a deepening rift within the highest levels of the Executive.

While the president’s camp has not issued an official statement on the impeachment motion, the prayers by the Murang’a clergy appear to reflect concerns over the political stability of the nation. The senior clergy, however, steered clear of commenting on the impeachment proceedings, choosing instead to focus on the spiritual dimension of leadership and unity.

"We must continue to pray without ceasing for our nation’s leaders, especially when the country faces challenges. Patience, prayer, and endurance are the hallmarks of our Christian faith," added Bishop Kiragu.
