Murang'a cop rushed to hospital after mobile phone explodes in his pocket
A police officer stationed in Mathioya, Murang'a County, has sustained injuries after his mobile phone burst into flames while en route to Kinangop, Nyandarua County, on Thursday morning.
According to a police report obtained by
Citizen Digital, Police Constable Simon Chepkirwok was part of four officers
who were heading to Kinangop from Mathioya on official duty at 9:53am.
Before arriving at their destination, Chepkirwok's
phone that was in his left front trouser pocket burst into flames and burnt him
on the left thigh.
Following the incident, the officer was
rushed to Kenol hospital where he received medical treatment and was discharged
hours later in stable condition.
"It has been reported by Cpl John Anyimo
, PC Simon Chepkirwok , PC Wilson Nyaga and PC (d ) Cornelius Kemboi all of DCI
Mathioya, that while they were travelling from Mathioya to Kinangop on
official duty…the mobile phone ‘make ; Techno BF1’ the property of PC Simon
Chepkirwok which was in his left front trouser pocket burst in flames and burnt
him on the left thigh," the report read in part.
The said mobile phone has since been retrieved
for further investigations.
