Foreign Affairs and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has rubbished off speculation that Kenya is at loggerheads with her neighbours, asking the media to shun peddling the speculation.

Speaking in Busia on Sunday, in an event attended by President William Ruto, Mudavadi said Kenya has instead been at the forefront in advocating for peace in the East African region.

"Kenya is not at war with any of its neighbours. In fact, President Ruto is on the frontline in bringing peace to the region. Counties are quarrelling and the president has been determined to see peace reigns in these countries, because if they fight then the war will reach us," Mudavadi said.

His sentiments come amid claims of tensions between Kenya and some of her neighbours, notably Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Recently, Tanzania suspended Kenya's national carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ), flights to its territory in what it said was a retaliation for Kenya denying its cargo planes to operate from Nairobi.

The impasse was quickly solved when Kenya caved in and allowed Tanzania cargo aircraft to operate from Nairobi.

In another incident, Uganda sued Kenya at the East African Court of Justice after Nairobi denied Uganda National Oil Corporation (Unoc) the licence to operate in the country.

In yet another incident a month ago, Kinshasa recalled DRC's ambassador to Kenya after a new coalition of Congolese rebels was formed in Nairobi.

The new coalition by the former president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni), Corneille Nangaa, is seen as a major national security concern for DRC.
