MP Silvanus Osoro faces backlash for demanding Kenyans 'respect' President Ruto

South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro encountered a tough crowd after appearing to suggest that Gen Z should treat President William Ruto with respect due to his status in society.

While taking to his X account, Osoro, a staunch Ruto sidekick, condemned young Kenyans for their seemingly unfettered attitude towards the President, calling for 'morality' when it came to expressing oneself regarding the President.

The lawmaker wondered what would make a 20-year-old approach the president like his own agemate, arguing that such frivolous behaviour was not any less different from the causes they were fighting against.

"We should focus more on MORALITY lessons in our homes, churches, and schools. You can disagree with a President, but can't you atleast address him by his office? Yaani,at 20, unaona rais kama rika yako juu ya kizungu?Any difference with what you claim to fight against?"he wrote.

His lamentations, however, were received with much derision and ridicule from Kenyans, with many telling him off and reiterating their irreverent stance towards the President.

Activist Kasmuel Mcoure, whom Osoro may have been targeting with his tweet, also replied, reminding the lawmaker that even ordinary Kenyans deserved the same respect their leaders were demanding.

"Sasa unataka kulia? Mkiiba pesa yetu na kutuua huwa mnatuheshimu? Msisahau nyinyi ni wajumbe tu. Ghasia!" he wrote.

Someone else said, "These children learn from you. When you abuse each other during campaigns and fight in front of them what lessons are you teaching them? They are learning from the best...Mujiangalie before you pass blame. Nyani haoni?"

On her part, Charity Nzomo said, "Look at the America you like to benchmark with. President Biden is insulted daily even by top TV hosts. Trump is insulted daily on prime-time television. Ruto is not a monarch, and we are not in the 1800s! If the heat is too much, get out of the kitchen!"

Other Kenyans who responded carefully reminded the MP about how respect works, telling him that the President would garner much of it if he, himself, displayed respect to his countrymen.

"When you steal and plunder, do you respect us? When you pass punitive laws, do you respect us? When you overtax poor Kenyans, do you respect us? When you divert public money into your accounts do you respect us? When you kill demonstraters, do you respect us? Respect is two way My Fren'!" Sam Nzioki said.

And when someone responded with, "The least we can agree is Ruto aende. An office leader should be differentiated with an office bearer if you don't know then you'll never know...." Osoro was quick to correct them, brutishly.

He retorted, "He is here till 2027. Mark this...don't waste breath and time. Tumewaruhusu sana mkadhani you can push anything..."

In the heat of the anti-government demos, fearless Kenyans have addressed the President to his face, many coining derogatory terms for him with others even singing mocking tunes whose lyrics are a direct affront to the Presidency.
