MP Oscar Sudi charged with hate speech, offensive conduct

The prosecution has dropped three charges that had been earlier leveled against Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and upheld three charges.

Sudi was charged with two  counts of hate speech and one of offensive conduct, charges he denied before Senior Principle Magistrate Lilian Arika.

However, the charge sheet presented before court on Wednesday omitted three counts of resisting arrest, unlawful possession of firearms and assault of a police officer as stated in a previous application.

Through his lawyers, Sudi made an application to the court to allow him to address political gatherings, a request that the prosecution opposed.

Senior Principle Magistrate Lilian Arika extended the orders given by Judge Joel Ngugi on Friday barring the legislator from addressing political gatherings pending a pre- trial hearing on the 6th of October.

Oscar Sudi was set free on bond with the Ksh.500,000 cash bail he posted in the high court on Friday being transferred to the plea court.

The lawmaker is accused of making utterances allegedly targeting Mama Ngina Kenyatta on the 7th of September.
