Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has been removed from
the influential Budget and Appropriations Committee and reassigned to the
Diaspora and Immigrant Workers Committee, in a fresh Parliamentary reshuffle.
Nyoro was replaced by Mathioya MP Edwin Gichuki, who
previously held the membership of the Committee on Tourism and Wildlife.
Critics have argued that the latest wave of changes is aimed
at relegating legislators allied to the opposition to less powerful committees.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina was moved from
the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity to the Powers and
Privileges Committee.
Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda will also step
into the Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation, a position previously
held by the late Charles Ong'ondo Were.
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku's role at the
Public Accounts Committee will now be taken over by Teso South MP Mary Emaase.
She previously held the role at the Departmental Committee on Regional
Development, which will now be occupied by Nakuru Woman Representative Liza
Chepkorir.
Further, Taveta lawmaker John Bwire will take over Ruku's
previous role at the Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and
Cooperatives.
In March 2025, Nyoro was among 5 chairpersons who were de-whipped from
their positions and relegated to members of the committees, in a move perceived
as targeting MPs allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
At the time, Nyoro had been breathing hot and cold since
Gachagua's impeachment and became a vocal critic of the government's policies.
In his place, the National Assembly appointed Alego Usonga MP
Sam Atandi.
