'Money Belongs to God’ — Bishops Defend politicians’ church donations

As debate rages over whether the church should accept donations from politicians or not, a group of clerics has accused critics of politicizing church generosity, claiming that churches deserve state support to spur development.
Bishops from the Federation of Evangelical and Indigenous Christian Churches of Kenya (FEICCK) told journalists that politicians are typically invited to churches for spiritual nourishment as well as development support, and that giving to God should not be disparaged.
As a war rages between clergy, politicians, and netizens over massive church donations, the bishops have vowed that they will not return the church's support because they work closely with the government to improve Kenyans' livelihoods.
During the launch of the Munyiri Africa Foundation (MAF), which was founded by FEICCK secretary general Bishop David Thagana, the bishops defended Bishop Edward Mwai, the founder of Jesus Winner Ministry, who on Sunday hosted President William Ruto, who promised a personal donation of Sh 20 million and later gave Sh 100 million via harambee.
The FEICCK chairperson, bishop Ngacha Njiriri, stated that any donation made to the church belongs to God and cannot be returned.
At a time when the country is still dealing with a joblessness crisis, the newly established foundation aims to empower young people to start their own businesses.
Bishop Thagana emphasized the importance of empowering young people to take on entrepreneurship and leadership roles in order to shape the future.
He stated that many youths have the potential to drive social-economic and event political developments in the country if given the opportunity.
Thagana however challenged the youth to avoid unnecessary distractions and instead pursue their social-economic activities with concentration for better results.
Youths led by Vincent Mumo, Mary Waithera and Joseph Wairegi called on the government to better the business environment in the country for Kenya’s economic growth.
Meanwhile, the bishops lauded the new political marriage between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga saying the move will calm political temperatures in the country and ultimately facilitate developments.
