Mombasa Press Club marks 1st anniversary with bold advocacy for press freedom

The press club boasts over 100 journalists from print, electronic and digital media and is recognized by the Media Council of Kenya.
It has stood out as one of Kenya's pioneering lobby groups for freedom of the press in the country and has also been recognized for active participation in climate change initiatives.
The Press Club hosted the International Day to mark the agitation for an end to violence and organized crime targeting journalists.
This year, the Press Club is agitating for total accountability from government institutions and in particular the coast region county governments.
The club has previously participated in food distribution activities targeting vulnerable groups in the society.
It is also targeting to work with schools with the sole purpose of engaging journalism clubs and mentoring aspiring journalists through partnership programs
The chairman, Omar Shungu, said the Press Club will work with relevant organisations and other Press Clubs across the country to advocate for press freedom, accountability in governance and supporting the climate works initiatives.
"It is a milestone achievement that gives us the opportunity to reflect on future initiatives and collaborative engagements that we can pursue to sustain our agenda," said Shungu.
The Press Club has worked with Mombasa County Government and also targets to incorporate University Students pursuing journalism.
