Migori County workers want gov't to address plight of ECD teachers

Migori County government workers' union has come out to push the county government to address welfare issues affecting Early Childhood Education (ECD) teachers.

The push by the union comes a day after over 600 ECD teachers in the country joined the union.

Before joining the union the ECD teachers have been struggling to present their issues to the county government of Migori for fear of victimization.

Migori County government workers union executive secretary Mr Silvance Araja said the ECD teachers have already tabled several issues they want to be addressed by the county government.

Araja said there are discrepancies in the travelling allowance given to the ECD teachers.

He also said the ECD teachers who are certificate holders are getting a commute allowance of Ksh.800 per month yet the labour laws recommended a minimum of Ksh.3000.

The county government workers' union said the ECD teachers in Migori County have also stagnated in one job group since they were employed ten years ago.

Araja said there are also ECD teachers who are supposed to be re-designated based on the level of education which they have so far acquired.
