Met Office warns of possible landslides in Murang’a

The Met Office has warned of possible landslides in Murang’a County with short rains expected in the second week of next month.

Murang’a meteorologist director Paul Murage says the county is expected to receive enhanced rains which may pose danger in landslides prone areas.

Even though there were no reported cases of landslides in any part of county,  visible cracks were witnessed in several areas of upper Muranga such as Gitugi, Kahuro and Kigumo.

Murage has urged the sub county disaster preparedness committee to warn residents to move to safer places at the onset of the short rains season.

Upper parts of the county are expected to receive an average of between 700mm to 900mm of rainfall while central Murang’a may receive 500mm to 700mm of rainfall.
