Meru: KCSE candidate dies just hours to the National Examinations

The first day of the 2024 KCSE theory examinations has seen multiple incidents of candidates both giving birth and facing tragic losses.

A male KCSE candidate from Tigania West, Meru County, died on Sunday, just hours before the national examinations began. Details regarding the cause of death remain scarce.

Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma confirmed the death of the boy, who was set to sit for his exams in Tigania West Sub-County, although he did not provide further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ouma expressed his condolences, stating, "We are saddened to have lost a student from the Tigania West area."

The ongoing Form Four examinations have also highlighted cases of teenage pregnancies, with four candidates sitting for their initial papers, English and Chemistry, in maternity wards.

Two candidates in Meru County took their exams at the Meru County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

In Nakuru, another candidate went into labor just two hours before the exams commenced and is currently admitted at the Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Job Kaikai, the Sub-County Education Director for Nakuru East, confirmed, "There is a candidate who will be doing their exams at the county hospital as they are set to deliver."

Additionally, at the Kericho County Referral Hospital, a candidate from Laliat Secondary School in Ainamoi Constituency gave birth to a healthy baby in the early hours of the morning.
