President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday sacked Wycliffe Ogalo from the helm of the prisons department, ending a two-and-a-half year tenure for the former provincial administrator.

In his place, President Kenyatta swore in Brigadier (Rtd) John Kibaso Warioba as the new Commissioner-General of the Kenya Prisons Service.

Warioba, a former military man, was tasked by the Head of State to lead the department through its worst crisis in the recent past.

Warioba is an extensively experienced former soldier who has, among other roles, served as a sector commander for AMISOM in the fight against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

He was responsible for planning and training of contingent troops heading to Somalia.

Warioba holds a Master of Arts in International Security and Strategy from the King’s College, London.

He has an advanced diploma in military management from the Indore University in India.

Warioba now faces the uphill task of restoring order to the department following the breach of security at the Kamiti Maximum Prison which led to the escape of three terror convicts.

The whereabouts of the three; Musharaf Abdalla, Mohamed Abikar and Joseph Odhiambo, still remain unknown on the fourth night of their escape.

President Kenyatta directed that no action or resource should be spared to get them back in custody.
