Matiang'i officially hands over Interior Ministry to Kithure Kindiki

Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has officially taken over the security docket from his predecessor Fred Matiang'i.

The handing-over ceremony was held in Nairobi on Tuesday at the Interior Ministry's Harambee House headquarters.

"Prof. @KindikiKithure officially takes over as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration from his predecessor Dr Fred Matiang’i," the Interior Ministry tweeted.

In a subsequent Twitter post on his official account, Kindiki thanked Matiang'i for his service to the nation and the people of Kenya while wishing the former CS all the best in his future endeavors.

"I thank Dr. Fred Matiangi for his service to our Nation as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government. I wish him all the best in his next tour of duty," said Kindiki.

Matiang'i first assumed the Ministry of Interior docket in July 2017, albeit in an acting capacity, following the sudden death of then Interior Minister Joseph Ole Nkaissery.

At the time, Matiang'i served as both Interior and Education CS before being permanently appointed as Interior Chief in January 2018 when former President Uhuru Kenyatta officially announced his second cabinet.

Kindiki, alongside the 24 Cabinet nominees nominated for the positions by President William Ruto, took oaths of office at State House, Nairobi on October 27, 2022, following vetting by the Cabinet.

"Took the solemn oath to: Serve Kenya, uphold the Constitution, and promote the public interest in securing our Homeland. Looking forward to joining the Team at the Ministry of Interior & National Administration," he said in a tweet then while thanking Parliament for approving his appointment.
