Philomena Mbithi , the woman who delivered a baby in their matatu, on Thursday narrated how George helped her deliver a bouncing baby boy after her water broke on the way to hospital.
On his part, George said none of the passengers were willing to help her and there was no time to take her to hospital as the baby was already pushing its way out of her womb.
Kenyans took to social media to congratulate the duo for the humane act with some even suggesting that the Government give them State commendation.
This is when Bonfire Safaris decided to award the two and ask people to vote for the perfect holiday destination to send them to. The company’s Instagram post reads:
“Meet Real hero…George Kariuki – matatu driver along Thika road who assisted a passenger by the name Philomena Mbithi who went into labor in the bus deliver a baby,,,..This is truly a noble act and as #BonfireCelebratingHeroes we want to appreciate this driver with a holiday….. Tupe maoni which destination shoud we reward him to? Mombasa,Dubai,Maasai Mara, wapi? Tell us….”
Majority of Kenyans picked Diani, a coastal town that was recently voted as one of the best travel destinations in Africa.
